GUARDIAN ANGELS MEETING
AUGUST 20, 2008
Welcome and Prayer - Alicia Finch and Denise Hammerich
Present - Denise Hammerich, Deb Parent, Teresa Parkey, Alicia Finch,
Jamie Palerino, Angie Peterson, Charla Hall, Marilyn Blake, and Dannette
Stroschein.
Purpose - Alicia talked about what Guardian Angels do and provide for the
school that is not in the school budget. Alicia asked everyone to brainstorm
for new ideas for fundraisers for the upcoming year.
Review and Approval of Minutes - The minutes from the last meeting from
May 14, 2008 were approved as written.
Old Business - Discussion of new officers and class reps.
New Business - Volunteer forms for Guardian Angels events were handed out
and discussed.
Family Fun Festival - Date for festival was set for October 24, 2008.
Discussion on whether we should have dinner and snacks or just snacks at
festival. Was decided at end of meeting to include dinner at festival, possibly
hotdogs, pop, cotton candy, and popcorn again. Discussion was made about
flyers being handed out for festival to emphasize on ring toss items and to
stress to parents that multiple quantities of items are needed for game. Last
year we ran out of items for game.
Grandparents Day - Set for September 12th. Request was made
to not have juice boxes as part of the snacks after mass but to have cups of
water and juice, etc.
Back to School BBQ - Discussion to have Guardian Angels table at picnic.
This way we could be a resource for questions and for new families. T-shirts
and license plate covers will be available to buy. Discussion on whether to
have 6th graders sell pop and Angel Ice at picnic to raise extra
money, decision at end of meeting was to not do this , not enough time to
organize with the 6th graders and there may not be any Angel Ice
available at this time. Discussion was made to have extra yearbooks from last
year available to buy at picnic for $10.00 for those who may have not received
one or would like an extra one.
Costco Inventory - Deb Parent will call to see if we can get back on
inventory list for January. Great way to raise money, $10/hr per person -
commit to 40 people, approx. 3-4 hours.
Possible New Fundraisers - Deb suggested possible Golf Scramble
for fundraiser - find someone who knows about golf as a resource.
“Trunk
or Treat” - discussion on possibly having cars in parking lot set up on
Halloween for kids to safely trick or treat. (Same sort of idea as the Mormon
Church.) Can be open to the public and could ask for a cash donation at the
gate.
Activity Discount Card - Idea brought up by Deb Parent, sample shown by Holy
Family School. Deb will contact person at Holy Family for ideas and discussion
was made on possibly having a booth at the auction to sell these cards.
Discussion was put on the table until next meeting in Sept.
Movie Night - Possibly a fundraiser during Christmas time to have 6th
graders or Jr. High kids watch SSTPS children for parents who want a night to
finish shopping. Children can bring sleeping bag and watch a movie in the gym
with popcorn. Will discuss more on this at next meeting.
“Chair”ity Auction - Idea made by Marilyn Blake to have each class decorate
a chair to be auctioned off at a tea or some type of event like that.
Kids Art Cards - Possibly have booth at auction. Charla and Teresa are
organizing this. Will ask teachers to have kids do two cards, one Christmas and
one every day card and have own child write his/her name on back along with
grade. These would be displayed at auction time and an option to parents to
order.
RUMMAGE SALE - Is a must this year.
The “un”official guide - Revisions were made by Denise Hammerich and new
families already have them for this year.
E-Mail - Ask Vanessa Bachman to e-mail class reps once a month updates on
school news and guardian angels news.
Next Meeting on September 10, 2008 at noon in the library.
